When hardware security meets software securityWith a growing perception of the risks induced by digital information, lots of manufacturers sell devices promising their users "military grade encryption", etc.
Unfortunately, such claims are usually very bold and are sometimes completely false. In this talk, we will discuss how we analysed the security of several encrypted external drives by combining hardware and software reverse engineering. We will also show that the security level of such devices is often very disappointing.
